Disk Of Ye

Disk Of Chan

They returned to Red Devil Island. Van Hil has made the party two offers.

He will teleport them to any location they desire and their dealings with the trading company will be over. However, he would like them to continue to work for the trading company. The next task is to go to the Kingdom of Ye to activate the teleporter located in that country.

Summary_006.PNG (32124 bytes)The party negotiate with the League of Guilds representative, Van Hil, to continue activating disks, rather than returning to their homes. They negotiate a price of 2,000 GS each per disk activated, and 75% off list price for magic items that are purchased through the Guild.

Teleporting back to Chan Xian Yuen, then travel by blip to Wing Ting Mai, the party hire a boat to Nu Gong Zao. The trip takes ten days. On the way the party fights a group of Kappa and has a talk with a Ki Rin. The latter is on a standard patrol of these waters and is interested in the activities of the Chan clan.

Arriving in Nu Gong Zao the party do their own things.

Chan Su Wan meets up with his contacts in the city and delivers the message his family have asked him to deliver to their contact. This relates to the ransoming of the blip they have captured.

Cebo headed off to the red light district and hired a girl to tech the arts of calligraphy and painting.

After some confusion about different sign languages, Slok Brethin meets up with the local thieves guild. After a slow start he obtains a passport for use within the Kingdom of Ye.

The party hire a river boat for the travel up the Da Jiang to Wu Jiang. Rather than wait for the imperial navy escort, they decide to travel up at high speed. The cost of the boat hire (all the way to Ru Yu Shui) is 600 GS. They will have to change boats for a smaller river boat in Wu Jiang. The party gives board to two nobles who have reason to travel quickly to Wu Jiang and transport three messages, earning 800gs for this leg alone.

On the way to Wu Jiang, the part are attacked by a group of Buso Tigbanua. The party are victorious.

summary007map.png (90916 bytes)The part's boat entered the swamp and proceeded upstream. As they approached the wild city of Ru Du Shui the captain informed them that these is a tax to be paid. This was a surprise. They decided, that as it was 4AM and the river very wide, to bypass the town. This was done successfully.

In the swamp the party was attacked by a group of 10 poisonous toads. The toads knocked Calim Russale to unconscious before overcoming the toads. As they were loosing constitution, two of the party, Calim Russale and Slok Brethin decided to overdose on the spice. They did not die.

They made good time onwards to their intermediate destination of Wu Jiang QuanXi. Here they stayed overnight and changed to a much smaller river boat. On this boat they were not able to have three crews as previously and hence the next section of the trip was much slower.

The next trip was quieter, as the lands here are more tame than the wild swamp. The party was only attacked once in the next 10 days of travel and were able to beat off the one Common Oni that attacked, disguised as a poor fisherman.

On reaching their destination, Yu Ru Shui. The party discovered a small impoverished town. The towns folk were moderately accommodating, until they announced that they were going to the old capital. On hearing this the town shunned the party. No one will talk to them or acknowledge that they exist. With one exception. Another Acetic approached Chao Lin and gave some information on the old city.

The party learned that the emperor died and had many of his retinue buried with him using clay forms to represent their persons. If not already dead, they were killed. A few years after the death of the emperor, the city was abandoned, because of the increasing activity by various monsters made it unsafe to live in. Now no-one goes near the city because of the palpable evil that exists there. The few brave adventures who do go either do not return, or worse, come back as evil monsters.

The party went into the town. Calim Russale and T'Pao flew over the site of the old city and discovered that little remains of the city. The section where they want to activate the portal is now totally overgrown and the presence of buildings is not discernible. They also discovered that in the grave district, there is an opening that is obviously well used. There are also trails, well worn, along the lines of the old major roads.

Chao Lin did a divination spell and determined that there are between 100 and 200 evil creatures in the complex, with one that is very much more evil than all the others. They seemed to be sleeping.

Rob's surprise birthday.

13 November 2001

The party camp outside Chen Xue Chong. As they approach the city that are effected by the evil presence and some succumb and become grumpy.

The party arrive in the city during the day, to discover that it is deserted. They spend most of the day trying to determine the location of the old Van Hill trading company outpost in the overgrown and mostly buried remains of the trading district. After one unsuccessful attempt the party discover the building foundations. Later they are use a locate object to determine the precise location of the disk. They spend the next 4 days excavating the disk.

The party decide to enter the tomb of the old emperor. Here they begin to explore the complex. Inside on they find a group of rooms. There are three bedroom, and lounge apartments. In each is a Terracotta Concubine and her barbarian lover. After some early difficulties, they easily cater for the concubines, and the barbarians joining the group for the moment.

27 November 2001

The party retires from the complex and set up in the ruined old town. After dark they fight first one, then another and finally two groups of terracotta warriors. They then retire for the night.

Kill List: 4 Brigades, 60 Warriors, 60 Xing Xing.

11 December 2001

After resting the night the party return the next day. As they approach the city movement is noticed from atop the hill, where the old city palace and graveyard is located. Soon a veritable army of terracotta warriors is seen marching over the hill in their direction.

Calim flies (on his magic fly) into the battle with Slok. They approach the army and Calim begins blasting away with fire balls and lightening bolts. The army responds with a hail of arrows and Calim is knocked  unconscious. Luckily he is revived with a clw potion and they are able to make good their retreat. The party now retreat in front of the army, which is not too difficult as it only moves at 10". After discovering that the army will follow them out of the city the party try and make other plans. After some skirmishes, in which they discover some of the leaders with the army, the party circle the army, out of it's sight and return to the city.

In the city, they again enter the tomb. They find little of interest, and are unable to enter the main tomb as it seems to be surrounded by impenetrable magic and bars. They also find the arm's quarters, and generally destroy everything. This is not difficulty as the all furnishings in the complex, apart from the doors are made from ordinary terracotta.

Now heading north, they try to find somewhere to rest. Though there is some decent from T'Pao as he is concerned that the army is now marching on the nearby town. There is also a view put that they should return using the disk and get reinforcements and rest before returning to complete the task, though some are uneasy as this will mean leaving the local are at risk to the rampaging army.

Returning to the city, the party discover the the army has returned. At each corner of the old wall, there is a small troop, with the main force, back in the north near the tombs. They enter the city from the south east and destroy the two squads guarding that corner of the city. They then head into the city, making for the portal.

Kill List: 1 General, 43 Xing Xing, 31 warriors, 17 horses.

8 January 2002

Returning to the portal, the party discover that the army has filled back in the hole. They have about 5 minutes before the army reaches bow range. After a short discussion about the merits of summoning an army of celestial badgers to re excavate the hole, they instead summon a fire elemental and sent it into battle. The battle is joined at 400' with some very ineffectual missile fire. It will last a mere 60 rounds.

Marching down toward the party are three brigades of terracotta warriors with three leaders. One clearly more powerful than the other two.

T'Pao, with a protection from missiles, engages the army, with the army returning fire. When the elemental reach the party, it kills first one terracotta warrior, then the large leader and finally six more warriors and Xing Xing. Though the leader is able to inflict sever damage on the elemental before the spell runs out. In the mean time, Chao Lin creates first Magmin and then two Thoqqua. Some of these inflict damage on the armies, but kill no warriors before they them-selves are killed.

Meanwhile, Slok and Cebo sneak up around to the back of the army and follow it from behind. The ineffectual missile fire continues for the until round 21, with T'Pao being surrounded by a small mound of arrows. At this stage, Chao Lin, now also protected by a protection from missiles, moves up 50 feet and turns the Xing Xing in the centre group. The party then run up and engage in combat.

For the next twenty odd rounds the party hack their way through the army. One of the generals managers to knock a barbarian down to unconscious, before the party come to his aide. Cho Lin fist destroys all the Xing Xing, then spends some time being pursued by a small group of warriors while casting sound blasts at the remaining large body of warriors, before they are distracted by Calim, stabilises the barbarian before at the end, joining in the melee combat. T'Pao spends some time spring attacking from behind the front line of monsters, before he is surrounded. He spends the rest of the combat mostly completely surrounded by warriors, before finally overcoming his foes. Slok initially watches. After his attempt to backstab a general is foiled by circumstance, he eventually joins in helping first the monk and later the brown bear which mysteriously finds itself fighting for the party. Calim initially makes no actions, later he summons the brown bear, which has a group of it's own warriors. He then spends some time fleeing a small group of warriors, before he is able to get some help from the Cebo. He then spends a few rounds magic missiling the generals, before himself joining in the melee combat. There is great rejoicing as he walks up to a warrior and dispatches it in one hit. Chan and the three rescued barbarians spend the entire combat wading through the bulk of the army, dispatching the majority of the warriors. Cebo attacks the army from behind, first killing one squad of warriors before running over to the first general. He trips and then body slams the general dealing much damage and with Calim's magic missiles, destroys the general. Buoyed by this success, he runs right through the middle of the combat, tumbling as he goes, to the other general. However his trip attack is ineffectual. The general is destroyed before he can try again. After carrying the unconscious barbarian from the middle of the combat, he then spends the rest of the combat, tumbling and running from one side, destroying a warrior here and there, much to the displeasure of the rest of the party.

So after a full six minutes of combat the army is destroyed. Cho Lin uses her last curing spell to cure 18HP to all party members.

Kill List: 1 Emperor, 2 Generals, a group of 90 warriors and Xing Xing.

22 January 2002

ChenXueChongTomb.PNG (34295 bytes)Wondering what to do next the party mull around for a while and then head off back into the Tomb. It is felt that there at least they can easily defend themselves. On returning to the entrance to the King's Tomb, they find that the entrance to the complex is wide open. Chao Lin raises a Detect magic and with Slok checking for traps, they move on forward. The whole area has a faint aura of magic. The first room is very plain. In the second they discover a small trove of Terracotta replicas of every day items. In the third they find the emperors throne and many chests all protected by strong or medium magic. They are also made from Terracotta, but they also turn out to be fully functioning objects.

Slok, checking for traps on the first chest, set of the magic protection and the whole complex has a guards and wards spell come into effect. Resisting the urge to sit on the throne, though his magic resistance, he proceeds to unlock the chest and discover it's contents. In the mean time, Chao Lin, T'Pau, and Cebo are caught by slamming doors and some are hurt. T'Pau finds himself in the 10x10 corridor entrapped in a web spell. Chao Lin and Cebo are also then caught in stinking cloud spells, but are able to escape the area of effect. Calim, out in room 22 is effected by a confusion spell, but has too few useful spells remaining to be a threat to the Barbarian trapped in the room with him.

Cebo, then decides to kick the throne. This sets of the Trap the Soul spell and is trapped. The two Barbarians in the room are called in to destroy the throne to release him.

Meanwhile Slok, under the careful watch of Su Wan opens all the chests and they retrieve the contents and T'Pau breaks his way out of the corridor in to the throne room.

Having gathered and found the loot, Su Chan values the treasure to be worth 10 times it face value to antique coin collectors and they force their way out into the open world through the magically locked doors.

There is a moment of tension as the party try to rip the Barbarians off blind, before they agree to leave with all the copper and silver.

While the party are uncovering the disk, two, Su Chan and Cebo head off to the town to explain all that has happened and that the threat has now been destroyed. However, they never make it. On the path, travelling in the opposite direction is the Acetic they met in the town. This Acetic is pleased with what they have done and returns to the old city with them.

Meanwhile, the party excavates the disk and piles it with the terracotta treasures from the tomb. While this is happening an Ki Rin comes down to meet them. Talking only with Su Wan, the Ki Rin, advises them that the Ki Rin are pleased with their efforts. They warn the party that the forces aligned against Van Hil are more powerful than they realise and that they should continue, but take great care.

The others return and the party are again united. They trigger the portal and return to Red Devil Island.

On the Island the party describe their adventures to the Red Devils. All but Chao Lin, who has eschewed all worldly possessions, are paid their 2000 gs payment for activating the disk. They then travel to Chan Xian Yuen by Portal and then onto Nu Gong Zhao by Blip to sell their vast treasure and stock up with magic.

In Nu Gong Zhao, they learn that the three winged blip was returned for a small payment and an undertaking not to attack the Kingdom of Chan again. It seems that there was a misunderstanding for which the emperor was apologetic.

Having reequipped they undertake the next task.
